The Director's Challenge

The Liz Goodbody Shield

A regular event in the Dynamo year is the Director's Challenge. Senior members are assigned a group of members and write and direct a short piece of drama around a theme or ground-rules given by the Artistic Director. In past years challenges have featured the use of a song or mime only or use of masks.

On a Monday evening, usually in March, all pieces are performed in front of the members, committee and parents, competing for the Liz Goodbody Shield. Named in memory of Liz Goodbody who was Dynamo's Secretary from 1990 to 1994, the shield is awarded to the director judged by a panel appointed by the Artistic Director to have produced the most original, imaginative work and have demonstrated the best skills as a director. In parallel, the adult audience votes for the most enjoyable piece - frequently not the same as the winner of the Shield.
